What is Professional Indemnity Insurance?
With all of the insurance options out there today, it is understandable that people mix up the different types of insurance. Often, people mix up professional indemnity insurance and general liability insurance. This mix up makes sense, due to the fact that both of these types of insurance deal with the workplace, and the two have certain parallels in the types of coverage they offer.
Public Liability Insurance is insurance for business owners. This insurance will protect the owner against suits regarding mishaps. The business owners have coverage if a client or worker is hurt on the site, and some policies will cover the holder if life is lost.
A Really Useful Shortcut In Expose
I happened to stumble upon what I thought was a pretty average shortcut while looking for tech support recently, but it has turned out to be really helpful when navigating between applications in Exposé, so I figured I would share it. All you have to do is use the space bar.
The Exposé function is generally really helpful to those of us with Macs: we can have all of our multiple windows open, and shift around easily, even from application to application. But sometimes, if you have a ton of windows open from various applications, this function can become a little problematic: the more applications open, the smaller the windows get. And all those open windows make it difficult to see any of them clearly.
Tips for Better Online Research
When it comes to research, once you have chosen a topic, you basically start from a wide angle and narrow it down to find solid resources from where to get your information. Today, most people turn to the Internet for their research.
Online research can be tricky though, and it is very important to know which sources are credible. For example a site like Wikipedia does not require peer-revision, which means anybody can post anything, and call it a “fact.” On the other hand, there are more than enough credible websites from which academia relies and channels its information. However, there are a few easy tricks to make sure the information you find is credible.
Many sites, if reputable, will footnote or at least mention where they get their information. So, if you go to Wikipedia and see that a certain fact is linked (usually listed at the bottom of the page) to another article, you should click on that link to see if it leads to a newspaper article or other primary source. When listing your sources, you should use the primary source, NOT the blog or Wikipedia where you originally saw it. Sometimes this can be a pain, but less of a pain than having to do the research twice when your readers demand basis for your facts. Therefore journal articles, papers published at universities, trade books, and other factual reference material are where you should do all of your research. Otherwise, you could be saying something that is actually completely made up by someone else!
Online Class Isolation, and How to Avoid It
Most of us who grew up in this day and age remember going to classes, meeting other people, and making new friends in a new learning environment.
Times have changed, haven’t they? With the advent of online classes, it can be a struggle to make friends and generally feel not quite so isolated from humanity when taking college-level classes. How do you break through that barrier? How can you make friends when your classmates are spread over the country?
First, to make friends, you must show yourself as open to friends. Talk to people through online, IRC chat programs, or VOIP conversations. Don’t be afraid to open up a little. Be willing to share some personal information. Do you have any pets? Any hobbies? Be careful not to over-share, but let people know you are interested in their lives as well.
Enhanced Annuities
Before we discuss what an “enhanced” annuity is, it’s best to start from the beginning and understand what a basic annuity is and work forward.
An annuity is a lot like a life insurance program. Generally how it works, you would pay a large lump some to a financial agent, who then manages that amount of money, and then begins paying you monthly payments from the lump sum when you need it most. This generally is a better idea for most people than having a large amount of readily available assets sitting in the local bank. (Money tends to burn holes in peoples’ pockets.) There are also annuities where you can pay in a little at a time, until you reach a certain amount or a certain age, at which point the monthly payments begin to come back to you as monthly annuity payments.
Gimme Credit!
If you invest your time or money into an enterprise, you want to see that you get credit for the work you’ve done, right?
Have you ever watched the end of a movie, and watched the names scrolling by…names of all the people who played a part in the production of the movie? It shows not just the actors you see on the screen, but also the lighting artists, the costume designers, and everyone ever associated with the movie. It’s called “the Credits” for the very simple reason that anyone who had even a small part in the making of the film wants to receive some credit for the work they’ve done.
College work is the same way. A “credit” is the unit of work that you have performed in that particular class that you attended. Most classes taught in college tend to be in units of three college credits that you receive on your transcript for the completion of that course.
